Americas cup gossip

Yeah. Soon the Kiwis will be the one with the negative score.

If you’re thinking like me, and you’re thinking about saving the YouTube videos from the AC Finals, then you can assume that each two-hour race day will be about 580 Mb for a 360p MP4 video, or 2.3Gb for a 720p MP4 video.

That camera @ SFYC is cool…

just tuned in and I can’t believe that OR is in the front again ???:mad:

wow they are touching 30knots upwind - looks like both teams made progress upwind again

oh my god what a mistake to leebow tack on OR when OR was flying …

had to turn it off as I can’t watch leg 4 & 5 as it is game over for ETNZ for today which will mean all even tomorrow and whoever wins - wins the AC

Having been in SF for the first week, I would not have thought we would still be racing. Those first couple of races entz just had so much more speed.
The course is quite good in person. The boats get pretty close and are amazingly fast. I would like to see it stay in SF. Not sure if the 72’s are the right boat. They have raced better than I expected, but I would prefer a monohull that is slower so they could do more tactical sailing instead of pure boat speed.

Sure looked like DB gave the last race to JS on the 3rd leg, But awesome racing!

Time for the shoot out…

YESSSSS… :rasta:

Sure looked like DB gave the last race to JS on the 3rd leg
It looked to me that as OR was rounding the top mark, the NZ boat just lost its steam, but I know DB will keep sailing as he doesn’t quit. It’s like in one of those inspirational movies where the hero falls, then gets back up and wins the race. Just not this time.

IMO, DB was a little desperate, and tried a thing or two that wasn’t tried & true yet; the jibe at Mark 2 and the lee-bow tack halfway upwind. In theory, it looked like a good move, but DB doesn’t have that much knowledge & experience in these boats to confidently know they will work for sure. Plus, the Oracle boat has this new upwind turbo mode now, so you have to figure that into everything too.

For tomorrow, look for very close racing. Look for NZ to HIT a mark.

So what NZ lost 2 today. I still think they (and Oracle, both) are the best team out there. Even the Yankees loose sometimes.

Tomorrow is the BIG day. Go Oracle!

Hey, Oracle just won their TENTH Finals race! To me, they’ve already won the Cup.

No matter what happens tomorrow, it’s already been decided, IMO.

I’m going to download the YouTube videos of for race 17&18, and 19.

Here is a little of the crew to share with you:

Without the 2 points penalty, on another boat category that as nothing to do with AC72, Oracle will be already the winnar 2013 !

ETNZ need to pull something really big out of the bag - sadly I can’t see it happening. When Oracle were losing they played their card took a day off from racing and regrouped. Crew change really played dividends for them combined with finally working out how to make the AC72 go more quickly and they’ve not looked back since. Seems to me that when ETNZ had their wins the tactics didn’t have to be up to much, they had huge speed advantage to blast away Oracle. Once O.R found their speed tactics became ever more important and yet virtually every race has been won/lost at the start, ie tactics. For me it begs the question as to whether or not Ray Davies is up to the job - ETNZ’s early start losses typified being out-smarted and I hate to say it, but a lack of experience. I got the distinct impression that he wanted to put the Kiwi’s at the windward end of the startline regardless of anything else. Yes, it generally gives an advantage but not always especially when up against the likes of Spithill/Slingsby/Ainslie.

I really do hope that DB and his crew can do something really special in the next race but I’ve a horrible feeling it just isn’t going to happen - fingers crossed I end up eating my words…

Oracle has but to cross the finish line to win the Cup. :bouncy:

Quite agree, although they must also be in front!!

Well, it’ll all be over soon…

That was GREAT RACING! Good job Jimmy and crew…

This was one of those races where my arm hair stood on end during the start, and at the end was able to thank my wife for her indulgence in my sport of sailing and racing multihulls. Not on such a grand of a stage, but all the same as memorable.

Congratulations to New Zealand and to Oracle USA - what a show.

congrats oracle.

down 8-1 and they pull off the comeback of the century…

Hopefully they will tell us what they did to increase the speed of OR…

Congratulations for ORACLE !! Well Done !!!
