Gary Jobson: Larry, it’s been amazing in the last serveral days. Races called off for too much wind while you were losing. Races abandoned because they were past the time limit. This string of luck just can’t continue. Do you have any comments?
Larry Ellison: Well Gary, we knew the luck was going to swing our way. Just a couple days ago we added a new team member to the payroll. He’s a creative guy and he’s really given us an edge in every area – design, wind prediction, wind production…he’s really been instrumental to our recent success.
Gary Jobson: We haven’t seen any new sailors on board, Larry? Who is he?
Larry Ellison: It’s God, Gary.
Gary: Excuse me?
Larry Ellison: I had his direct number, Gary. I’m Larry Ellison, after all. It’s not like money is an object! God and I concluded the deal in just a couple minutes, and you can see how it paid off. He did mention that he’s been wanting to talk to the New Zealanders for a while but really hasn’t had a chance.”
Gary Jobson: Really? That’s incredible!
Larry Ellison: Yeah. Something about them and their sheep. No idea what that’s about.
My thoughts as well, Claudio … although I’m not sure how that impacts the news reporting - unless there is a contract item that each teams gets $$$$$$ for each day of racing, regardless of who wins.
Kiwi still have their race card so they can always show up get ready to sail, and then throw the card down and try to “ice” Oracle… much like they do in american football with kickers…
There is apparently a CHANGE in the Rules for the 34th America’s Cup.
ACEA CEO Stephen Barclay is reporting on it’s Twitter Account that the Race Committee has decided to “Not Start a Race” if the Wind Speed is below 10 knots because of the 40-Minute Time Limit
On second thought, I think the RC picked a bad place for the race course. If you look at a map of the area, you will see that ALL the water from S.F. bay, San Pablo Bay, and all the other inland waters has to go under the Golden Gate bridge, so the talk of the current along the course seems under-estimated. Maybe the RC intentionally put it there because of the extra influence and “drama” to make the competition more interesting, but the America’s Cup isn’t a soap opera! Putting the course where it is would be like having a super-speedway tri-oval on Antarctica. There really is plenty of room in the middle of S.F. BAY.
BTW- the AC race tracker app says the start was postponed to 13:30
I read conspiracy theory ??? humm don’t know - it is possible but that would be another shadow over the AC if that is true though there are so much money involved nothing can be ruled out !
have to say this is getting painful to watch as a ETNZ fan - come on ETNZ can you put your shit together and put that final extra effort to win this AC. I don’t even want to think of the consequences for ETNZ if they don’t bring that cup to NZL - they’re 99.9% there - they were the one breaking all the boundaries before everyone and now they need to finalise it - conspiracy or not
I gotta stop drinking coffee with my lunch! Even though the start isn’t until 16:15 here.
I’m all excited now, and I haven’t gotten excited about anything since I left Vulcan… These guys are actually going to get this cup. It’s too bad they stopped doing the defender trials.
