Americas cup gossip

There’s no live webcam at the AC Village this time?

It’s too bad the parade didn’t go off as planned.

patirzio-bertelli-willing-to-sit-out-a-month-if-americas-cup-jury-takes-a-month-to-decide

so, no sunday - racing ?!?

will there be any racing at the LVC?

artemis - has no boat and no practice

luna rossa - is expecting a 0:3 against ETNZ
(should be the best moment to quit the game, right now)

ETNZ - has no oponents

IMO, this may be the last America Cup.
Will be very difficult to find a crazy mind ready to trow any cent out of the pocket next time !!!

This is what I have found

count down is 21 hours 49 min at the time I am posting this so I suspect this will be where they’ll stream the live tomorrow

I’m not sure but what is is that once again they messed it up despite a brilliant recovery with the aC45 which seemed very popular - they should have sticked with them - will say no more on this.

Even Bertarelli didn’t come and play this time, he was right too. this is not about sailing but more about the team who has the biggest budget and best lawyers - sad really !

An interesting turn of events with L.R not racing ETNZ with all broadcasts for today being cancelled, I’m only speculating here but believe this part of a well thought out early game plan where L.R & ETNZ want rattle O.R as much as possible early on in the game.

ETNZ and LR don’t “want” anything except for the design rules to be left as they are they’ve both accepted the 35 safety regulations recommendations but are standing fast on the two proposed design changes as they see an opportunity to disadvantage the other teams by sticking to their guns.

ETNZ has clearly won the AC design game and want to carry it through to sailing & winning the AC. The race director has put himself in precarious position by threatening to scuttle the event using US coast permit as leverage if all 37 recommendations are not accepted by the teams, now the international jury has to decide with their meeting starting tomorrow.

Scenario 1: If I.J vote in favour of race directors 37 recommendations then L.R & ETNZ lose their design advantage and O.R are now up to race speed with months to fine tune with the 2 last minute design changes. No idea how L.R will respond to this but believe ETNZ will swallow the bitter pill and focus on moving on to winning on the water.

Scenario 2: If I.J vote in favour of L.R & ETNZ the race director will become the centre of attention and will be forced either to carry out his Coast Guard permit threat which would be paramount to walking the plank or he need to back pedal with the Coast Guard but most importantly this will force O.R designers into some serious head scratching losing valuable time in coming up with another legitimate solution to get their boats into foil stability again.!!!

ETNZ & L.R can hold their design advantage by sticking to their rights under the protocol, and is a historic decision for the I.J. with possibility of couple more months teams disputing but this is a way of slowing things down somewhat to play into their advantage of L.R & ETNZ again.

I wonder if Larry really wants his ORCALE branded team in this position being seen as the “bad team” (as ALINGHI was in the last Cup) on the back door step of the U.S !? Artemis as the Challenger of Record have done nothing but work against the defenders and are collaborating with defenders O.R and therefore only perceived as collateral damage to ETNZ & L.R now, because O.R is the real target.

The fall-out is bumpy start to this AC, where fans & sponsors lose out, Prada & Louis Vuitton are also serious competitors in their respective markets which one of the reasons I believe Prada has no qualms about damaging L.V series, but everyone knows this is how the modern AC game goes and is part of the intrigue that the America’s Cup creates…after all this is one of the best international reality soap operas not produced in Hollywood.

And now the 34th AC has officially “jumped the shark”. Once again the american syndicate is responsible for this debacle…Its only a matter of time until we are banned from participation in future events. As no one will want to play with us as we like to argue and change the rules and not actually sail and play fair…

The Jury is scheduled to meet on Monday" !!??

After knowing the race dates for over a year, they can’t make themselves available for even the one day?? Surely they would have expected that there would be some last-minute available during this time, or has someone’s little girl bumped her toe, and Daddy has to stay home to make sure it gets ‘all better.’

“Gee Boss, I can’t work on Monday, because there’s a 12-hour sale on tools at Sears.”

Don’t the boats get inspected or measured prior to the LV Cup? That is the time to bring up the legal stuff AND decide on them without wasting time.

There ought to be a moratorium on rule changes in the last month before the LV Cup. Make that the first thing to do when (if?) this AC is over.

come on…you know us 'mericans don’t work weekends, let alone a holiday weekend…

The only time I didn’t sail by my ow decision was when a regatta was scheduled ON July 4th.

If LR decides to sit-out on Sunday, is there at least another match to watch, or will we have to “tune-in to see the exciting conclusion!”

if LR sits out, ETNZ still has to go around the course to claim the win. if you click on the above youtube video, you will see that the broadcaster has cancelled the event…

Oh boy, I can’t wait to see one boat go the course… Maybe it’ll be on my AC race tracker app. I’m wondering the the online race viewer will have it too.

2685 people watching live ETNZ first race of the first RR of the LVC

Surprise surprise ETNZ won their first race.

Whilst I hope ETNZ and LR win their protest and I do understand how the the Italian got upset as I would too - I think they should have raced today - Not that it’ll make a difference as it will most likely be LR and ETNZ in the final of the LVC, they’re missing out on some good practice.

Clearly they don’t to show everything to OR to copy or counteract.

Well done ETNZ

the youtube live coverage had a delay of about 2 min to the virtual eye at the AC-app.
Did they expect Janet Jackson to be there?

wow, heading to the Golden Gate with 20 Knots and going thru a tack with 8 Knots (it’s still a catamaran)!
‘passing Alcatraz, they are that fast, they could go to jail!’ :tand:

And now, did they win and are we facing the next protest about that?

It seems to me that LR would have had a lose-lose day today, had they raced or not.

(#1) They could have NOT raced, and lost the experience, and (#2)they could have raced today and lost the point had TNZ protested the rudder, because they could not comply. The latter, IMO, would be the least desirable thing to have happen to you.

At least it was a good 45 minutes of quality sailing. The ACWS would have gotten two matches done in that amount of time.

You can watch the replay here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1nsxdqGQu4

ETNZ basically master bated their way around the course…Don’t get me wrong it was enjoyable watching them sail (i refuse to call what they did a race). But, like sex, it would have been whole lot more enjoyable with another person to mix it up with…

I noticed that the Am Cup website has links to an application for Android and iOS, but you have to have a phone, and the latest version of the OS. Fortunately, I have the AC Race Viewer app from Jack Griffon (Cupexperience.com) which is great to use while watching the YouTube live video.

The AC app has virtualeye stuff in it, but that’s the only good thing about it. I don’t want any social stuff or shopping or news. I use a real computer for news and pictures.
