thank you very much angus. discovering the “Footy” was one of the best things i have come across.
i constantly think about it, whether making something new, or sneaking off to go sail it.
have you been mucking with yours at all?

Due to popular demand, I’ve decided to add a propper foil into the mix.
I added the appendage to the new plug, and did a split mold, so that the hull and keel would be of monocoque construction.
Benefits include:
-keel-foil is part of the kit, and price is still the same (marginal shipping
increase, due to new parcel-size)
-keel-foil is mounted in the right area, and at the right attitude,
-monocoque construction adds simplicity to the build,
-monocoque construction distributes foil-loads more effectively, without
adding “secondary-bonded” structural supports,
-monocoque construction provides more internal spce, for telemetry-rigging
-and over-all weight has been reduced (hull weight is still around 60gm, but
now this includes the keel foil section).
The new molds aren’t complete yet, but they should be ready in about a month.
As for hulls, up to number five(5) are spoken for, so there may be some waiting.
Here are some mold pics.
carbon fiber test lay-up pics.
these pic sizes are small. for larger, go here:
if ya like the small pics and don’t want to go to picture trail.
above says all.
bloody shame no-one’s yet said, well done … well done! mate … looks great
yeah nigel, thats a nice piece of work!
thanx dudes.
wasn’t looking fer praise, but it’s always motivating to hear.
just showing what i’ve been up to with the Lajabless. been so busy with stuff, that it’s taken me one month just to do that piece.
anyhoo cheers.
Looking very nice Nigel… extremely nice in fact and blows away anything moulded I have seen recently. I just saw the photos as my travels here (England) are making puter access an occasional thing. Very excited now to see the real thing!
Graham
you’ll see the real thing soon.
some examples of the new kit pieces.
two here for an english man, one for you graham, and one fer me.
transom mold isn’t done yet, so no tansoms in pic.
hull halves joined. now fer a deck, transom, and guts:devil3:
Carbon keel shells, available to any one who wants to use a foil shape, in their keel design. Shells come joined, faired, and clear-coated.
Measures 9" long, and uses a “65-009” foil-base.
one of two, of the newly molded Lajablesses, going to england as soon as the primer dries.
I’m really liking how the new ones are coming together:D, i hope some others will as well;)
will have more info, when an average is obtained.
:zbeer:
(nevermind the crummy pics, it’s my phone’s camera)
Nigel, you are a craftsman par excellence!
A.
thanks angus.
haven’t forgot your rudders, just friggin busy with stuff.
will get some for ya.
She looks very very nice Nigel… great work as ever.
Graham
haven’t forgot about you either graham, she’s coming…
I have a concern about the graphite rudder shaft… When you tighten the grub screw on the tiller, it chews into the shaft and the shaft can later fall out.
Is there a way to harden the shaft or protect it?
thx
I always use concentric brass tubing from my local hooby shop, with a solid insert soldered in at the upper end and a flat filed on it to which the ‘grub screw’ can make a solid seating. I also drill a hole across the end with a retaining pin through it, to retain the rudder against the ultimate catastophe.
