I have started building my 3R, and I wanted to posts a kind of log. I will post pictures on my website as well. Below you can see the general hull shape of my 3R. I need to shim a few shadows, so that they are more perpendicular to the building board.
The latest photo of my boat as it sits in the garage. I didn?t have any free time to work on her this weekend, but I should have plenty of time this week.

those picture are great. looks like you can almost float it without any resin. damm those planks look tight. just wondering how long it took. and did you use any special tips you used. makes me think about building one myself.

Cougar, I been working on it for about 3 weeks now, 2 or 3 hours a night. I have spent about 48 hours planking. The only real tip I can give is have a large reservoir of patience.
I?m hoping to put up some web pages this weekend, with more details on my building board, and planking process.
hey guys
i just saw something. i dont think dan built that boat. look at his shop. real neat and tidy. my shop looks like it has been USED.
what do you think?

remember neat and tidy
Very nice work there Dan, it looks exceptional. Tell me, what’s it like to have all that space in your shop??? MAN… I would love to have that much room. I feel like I work in a submarine.
Maybe someday… Keep plugging it looks great!
Yea I?m pretty up tight about my shop/garage, when I moved in just over a year ago it looked like crap. Spent a full week putting in the bench ad shelves, and I?m still not done. I want a cnc router and a mini mill yet.

You should see my fathers shop; workbench is 18 feet wide and 3 feet deep. I?m envious of my dad?s newest tool; a 13? Dewalt planer
Last time I was visiting my parents I helped him make a roll away bench for it.
my wife bought me a Jet 15" planer [:D] Did you know that 50% of all hardwood sold in the USA goes to PALLETS??? Guess where we go on weekends? I have pulled and planed some of the prettiest walnut, cherry, maple… out of PALLETS… I know… I know… the guys in New England burn Cherry in their fireplaces…heheheh but it is rare down here… but MAN have we cornered the market on MESQUITE! [:-batman]
told you
now. do you believe that you did a good job. you have other people telling you
gezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
you did a good job. and the boat looks good. now lets see it. off the shawdows and with a deck on. maybe even that paint job we talked about. guys… dan has a great idea for painting this thing. wished i would have thought about it first
cougar
i still say. your shop is not were this boat was built. not even a scrap of paper. a small balsa sliver. what about glue drops? hmmmmmmmmm
Nah, I am 100% German and my shop looks like a tornado went through it. [:D] I just need more space. It is all a ratio of crap/cubic ft. If you have enough space you are OK (until you fill it with more crap… then the cycle repeats.)
This photo probably looks like a step backwards, but I?m done glassing the hull. The hull has a layer of 1.4 oz. glass, and 3 epoxy filler coats, the hull was sanded with 220 and 320 grit sand paper before each filler coat was applied. This photo shows the final filler coat sanded with 320 grit. I?m now ready to break the hull free of the building board.
