Just a brushing trial on half hull surface to shows the difference.
The final work will be done with an air spray gun, actually hidden somewhere in my garage.
And now some rest !

A work of art, beautifull.
Thank you very much Brownie.

Happy Easter to All
May be an idea for decoration as suggested by hew565
Claudio
Easter is gone, back to work !!
Nice surprise because after sanding and a trial coating of polyurethene warnish the measured weight is 319g against the 317g expected from my previous calculations.
The male mould is under preparation in order to fabbricate the deck borders corners
according to this simplified drawing
Hull Glass reinforcements pre cut and positioned
Claudio
My method to prepare glass sheeting. I use adesive paper to frame each sheet in order to avoid tissu fraying. :
Doing this the work is much more clean . After application of reinforcements and a partial resin coating of the hull interior, the weight is increased of 54g
On the other front I drilled out the male mould to obtain the position of Fin Box and Rudder.
Following the inner central line I have made 3 holes keeping together the male mould and the laminated hull.
Later I inserted and glued copper nails.
The head of the nails will leave the imprinting mark, in the case a female mould will be done.

Claudio -
I wished you lived down the street from me. I certainly could learn a WHOLE LOT from you.
I thank you for sharing your ideas and process as I now see how I can improve my building here.
For all of us - thank you for sharing with us.

Minnesota
Dick,
I have non words to express my appreciation for what you says.
In the next life we have a choice, either you come to France, either I come to Minnesota !
My 3D is just adressed to the ones that would like to joins our fantastic hobby. Some times I make the wrong choice and I’m happy to describe the consequences as such that the same mistake could be avoided by others.
I like too much modelling, pitty that, for obvious reasons, for many years I could not practicize.
Internet and this forum are ideal means to communicate by ‘giving and receiving’ with the rest of the world - just great !
Thanks Dick
Claudio
Claudio - I would look forward to that !
Should you ever get the chance to come through the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) there is a room, food, and beverages here for you. It would be my privilege to be able to host you and any family members.
If not, I may have to travel to France to find out what really good wine tastes like. :zbeer:
I tried your idea of tape on cloth - FANTASTIC ! I used some of the plastic packaging tape and applied to cloth, then cut out a design to fit around the rudder post on hull of my RG-65. So COOL ! once it started to cure, I simply and slowly pulled the tape backwards and off the epoxy/glass cloth - and found a very smooth surface. This almost works like “pre-preg” glass.
Stick tape to glass cloth, cut shape, paint on resin, apply to surface, wait for about 2 hours for cure to set in and then remove tape. So simple - So elegant - so easy!
Dick ,
actually to old to travel, but many thanks for the invitation. Another dear friend and ex colleguae of mines, invited me also several times to Washington DC.
During my professional activity, I went very often in the States at least every to months for 15 years, visiting factories in Washington DC, L.A., San Diego, Colorado Spring and most often in Jopling Missouri.
Having said that, it is my turn to offer my invitation to Nice facing the Mediterranean sea,
see the town from my balcony :
The best climatic area of France
Hoping not to go Out Of Topic …
The tape at the beginning, I was removing it as you said and then I became too lazy…
Cheers

the Stern
Claudio
The weight is increasing ! Fortunately the stern will be reduced in eight, less than half .
Claudio - last night the wife and I went to a large department store. Now she think’s I am going crazy - all I wanted to do was walk up and down the aisles looking at different fabric patterns !
Somehow I don’t think an (American) football pattern would be appropriate.
Back to the topic and the stern … is the center core between the carbon a piece of balsa? Is there a reason to leave it inside for strength if you are using carbon fabric?
Thank you.
Dick,
not all the cotton fabrics are the same, the ideal is the one around 110/120g/m²
Thinner fabric, if any, or silk, or else, become transparent and the decorating subject will disappears with resin impregnation un less black and white
In 2004 I picked up this picture from a German site :
I tried to have some indications about the tissu used, probably a panty hose, who knows ! I’m still waiting !!
The material for the stern is just triplex of 1.5mm, it will be cut away for the major part of it.
see post 46 . The interior will be simply painted to protect against water . The cockpit plane will be glued on the edge. Carbon face remains outside.
Cheers
Claudio
Panty hose Claudio; Panties would seem to be limited to footies and smaller.
Thanks Martins for correcting my poor knoledge of the language terms !
Cheers
Claudio
Claudio,
First I would like to say as may other have aready said, nice work, I one day wish to get to the level of craftmanship as you.
Now that you boat has had time to cure, do you see any disadvatage to using fabric instead of fibreglass? Things like weight or stiffness of the hull? Could you have just used fabric on its own?
Dick,
I am also looking around at different fabric? Go for the NFL pattern! I think a Hawaiian pattern would be cool.
Andrew
Hi andrew,
cotton fabric cannot be a replacement for glass cloth in terms of strenght.
Fabric alone could be used if supported by others layers. Saying that, the “other layers” could also be cotton cloths, but the strenght will drop. How much I do not knows.
One should check and compare the strenght caracteristics of cotton cloths if these data exist !!
Actually my Hull is a little bit too heavy, and as already told, probably the first glass layer of 105g/m² could have been replaced with a glass cloth 49g/m².
Practically 3 x 0.49g/dm² + 1 x 1.2g/dm²(cotton) = 2.67g/dm² + 3.2g/dm² (60%resin) = 5.87g/dm²
Extimated Hull weight : 5.87g/dm² x 42dm² (hull surface) = 246.54g instead of 319g as measured.
Claudio
Andrew - being from the midwest, I was thinking a John Deere pattern ( farming tractor for non-US residents) !
Wife already denied the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) pattern. She suggested a camoflauge pattern so the boat would get lost, and it would one less thing cluttering up basement or garage.
Seriously, I did find a very small black & white checkered pattern - but this was all Wal-Mart stuff. I need to visit JoAnn Fabrics or similar.
I could be in there all Saturday just wandering the aisles and looking at fabric - sigh
