Hi Larry,
With apologies for sounding a bit pedantic, the Channel Islands are, and have been for centuries, British! So your Pa would have been chatting up British girls!
Cheers

I mispoke, since those are specifically named that… saw it when I wrote it and thought I should change it but it had already gone down the pipe. He was on the French Coast somewhere, West of Cherborg.
Muzza and others!
Nice french there Muzza. The Channel-islands Guernsey, Jersey and so on, are Norwegian.
If an islands name ends with -ey it has usually Norwegian or sometimes Danish roots. And why is that? Normandie, needles to say, has got its name from the Normands. The father of the father of the father of William the Conqeror was “G?nge Rolf” (meaning Walking Rolf) usually called “Rollo”. Rollo was the son of R?gnvald M?rejarl. M?re is a part of Norway. Anyway, during about 100 years (starting with Rollo)the Normands expanded their territory to include parts of Bretagne and Flandern. During this expansion the Channel-Islands was included as well. Well, has anyone thought about the origin of surnames starting with Fitz, like Fitzgerald? Finally, Cougar is keeping a low profile. Wis, can it really be beacuse of Maple Syrup? The country seems fair enough, but the rest?
