Hi Dick,
I went checking and beside my gratefull appreciation to Chad,
the discussions transferred to the New Section are truncated. ie the “IACC 120 cup” was composed of 32 pages and only 2 minor pages are actually reported , loosing totally the content that generated more 50000 readings.
cheers
Claudio
Hi Claudio,
I had been wanting to build a 1 meter mono because the IOM class is by far the most accessible club racing in New Zealand,so I have been looking at all options for plans , have you designed your AC-100 to fit within IOM class rules?..I ask because i am no expert in IOM regulations and it would be nice to build something a little different from the handful of latest generation IOM plans available…thankyou for your advice…Gary

missing pages have been reported to Chad as of just now. 6/15/2010 at 8:20 AM Central US time

Thanks Dick.
Gary,
my new design of AC100, has nothing to do with an IOM.
The idea behind, is a follow on of the successfull AC120. The main purpose is to have a model easy to transport.
It is supposed to be a very fast racing boat that everybody can build using epoxyglass composites.
Two models are drawn so far , one with a displacement of 2560g and square frames style ETNZ or Luna Rossa and the second with more circular frames and with 2780g of displacement. The Rules are not yet formally frozen but the bulb weight should be free as well the Fin & Rudder lenght . The LOA is 1000mm max and the LWL is 850mm max. The width is Free. The sail area is 5500cm² max with a mast of 1500mm max (some talks to render the mast height free)
Formal issue is pending the Official site opening, nevertheless the first drawing can be free downloaded from : www.nonsolovele.com under ‘tecniche’
Cheers
Claudio
Gary seeing your incrediable moulding skills on your multione project, would love to see you have build log here on IACC 100 project …I’m sure it would be extremely interesting seeing the difference in performace compared to IOM …be a pioneer my friend !!! start a new trend in NZ waters
Hi Claudio/ Kiwi and thankyou , I have had a good look at the website as suggested- very nice site by the way!!.
The problem for me is I would really like to compete within a class with more than a few yachts.
There is so much time for me in building a new boat that I really need to build a yacht which meets IOM class rules. …I would love to build a IACC120 and maybe will one day when there are a bunch of them down here, but for now will look to build one of the IOM 's off a plan.
Cheers …Gary
Alan compliments. What are your sensations, your feeling using this two boats?
Matth
Thanks Matthias, You ask the tough questions firstly let me say that I have only had approx 4 hrs on the water with both boats and I really think I need more experience (stick time) to really have a real feel for each boat, which I don’t really have now.
My first impressions are: I’m still in awe (amazed) on how well balanced both boats are, that is credit to the architect (Claudio) of how a well designed boat behaves compared to my only other experience of model kits boats, the efficient location of the mast, keel & rudder are absolutely critical. It is day & night in terms of boat balance and it has proved to me that commercial kit boats rarely achieve this level of excellent handling. With what little I have experienced so far, I find IACC 120 boats are very responsive and stable in terms of control in these aspects and sail in the groove nicely.
When it comes to tuning the rig, honestly my alloy masts are little like trying to eat spaghetti with chop sticks  with each small lower & upper shroud movement/adjustment the mast is slipping into a different shape which is influencing sail shape in a big way, I really see the need for a stiff CF mast before I can really start fine tuning of the Rig and get some consistent and repeatable settings.
I have two rigs 78 dm2 @ 1700 mm mast and 74 dm2 @ 1595 mm mast and I have exchanged them between the 2 boats in 10-15 kph winds and have the first impression that the lower mast height (1595 mm) gives more stable sailing, as I have impression of same boat speed between the two different sail plans, but the alloy masts are not helping with this evaluation. My early thinking is to have a set of 78 dm2 sail plan made up with shorter 1595 mm mast height.
Extremely good stability under boat running conditions with standard fin dimensions, here I am also making up a smaller rudder and narrower keel fin to see what effect (less drag) will have on beating performance but I know this will also have a negative effect on running performance, just wanting to satisfy my own curiosity with this.
Also exchanged the keel fins between boats, 1 bulb is 90 degree’s to keel fin rear edge and the other is tilted 3 degree’s up. The tilted bulb gives the first impression of boat sailing more smoothly when beating however, have not enough stable settings (alloy mast issue again) to really confirm this impression.
The sails I have from Isobar have a very hot profile which I know that I’m not getting the best from due to my spaghetti mast (again).
One positive aspect of have a spaghetti mast, is that it teaches you how critical mast setting are and I am learning volumes from this situation. Finally having internal sheeting set-up I have not experienced problems which I feared from tangling and jamming and both boats have been 100% waterproof upto moderate wind conditions so far.
I’m still learning how to fine tune the Jib/Main setting to find the right drive/power ratio’s in different wind & water conditions, being analytical by nature I’m documenting all setting changes and finding 1-2 mm have big effect with these aspects. At the end of the day you can’t buy experience, so I just need time to learn from experience … but these IACC boats are just the most exciting experience.
Looking forward to sailing with you soon
Cheers Alan :drink:
Thank you Alan for your interesting review. You have reason: our IACC120 sailboats are the most exiting experience. I can’t wait to sail with you and your boats. My Alinghi boats are in continue development, I hope to have this year two boats very very fast, but , you know, almost all teams have new and fast boats, so the IACC120 Italian cup, this year is hard to win. However I hope that the Alinghi team could have good performance; we will see!
