Hello again. I know this rig will be a bit much, but I wanted it to look scale. I’m going to build one more rig, B size to be able to sail in heavier breeze. I will bend the mast like the original. In the picture, there is no back stay.
Much depends on the ballast you manage to fit in the keel.
I do assume that the scale factor is 19.22m : 1.8m =10.67
Displacement factor should be the cube of : 10.67x10.67x10.67 = 1214
Australia Displacement was 21800kg, therefore the model weight should be 21800 /1214 = 17.95 kg
How much of this weight is supposed to go into the lowest part of the Keel ?
Answer not really required !
Cheers
the keel weight is 17.8 kg. The hull is probably 300 grams heavier due to the fact I built the hull as a plug to begin with.
I will produce a mold in the fall. From the mold it will be easy to produce a hull at less than half the hull weight in the current model.
The wings are lead and the boat feels very stiff when I test float the boat. I think I will be able to sail in winds up towards 4-5m/s.
Cheers,
Lars
Hi Lars,
I didn’t expect a keel so heavy.
Cheers
Continued work on the rig today. Also sprayed some more paint on the keel area. Almost done painting, and ready to wet sand and polish again.
The weather is super nice today and I took the opportunity to be outside working on the rig.

Worked on the sails last night. Got help from a buddy who is a sail maker.
Cut the mast curve today.
Interesting and shape appears well done. The Jib for when ?
Cheers

I hope to finish the sails this weekend.
Will work on the main tomorrow.
Been working on the jib sheet system this weekend.
Some more pictures from the Sunday test sail.
Hi Lars,
as already said it is a fantastic achievement and the place is a dream far from pollution. You shall be proud of your Australia II
Thanks Claudio,
It started with your drawing! Without your drawing it would not have been possible. Any chance you have the drawing for US26 Courageous? I would love to build that boat too.
Thanks,
Lars
Went sailing today! I had done some updates to the jib sheet system, and it worked a lot better today. You can check out my YouTube channel for more videos from today. The sails are a work in progress.
I will re cut the main sail luff.
I wish everyone a great weekend.
Started a new project. US 26 Courageous. I’m building a plug, and will produce a mold. Same scale as my Australia II.
Hi Lars,
very speedy !
I have enlarged the image and observed a possible bump on one shadow comparing with the previous and following shadows unless it is simply an optical effect ! see picture
Cheers
Claudio
Thanks Claudio,
I trued the frames as best I could, focusing on getting them straight. I will keep an eye out on this once I start sanding.

Worked on Courageous again tonight.
