It is with utmost sadness that the Ashburn Model Yacht Club in conjunction with the Northern Virginia Model Yacht Club announces that Tom Causin has sailed his last race. Tom passed suddenly on Monday. While Tom had not sailed much in the last few years, he never failed to come out every year to RD the Annual Pumpkin Regatta, going on 13 years now. Tom was a founding member of the Ashburn Model Yacht Club and he was a National level skipper with several classes of boats.
Over the last couple of years Tom did sell a few of his boats: a Laser still resides with a local club member, and his EC12 went to a member of the Maryland Model Yacht club. His boats of choice seemed to be the Victoria and the Soling 1 Meter and when he was on the water, he always sailed hard. Tom was the first guy to come over and help you tune your boat after he beat you, and the first to hand his transmitter over to someone to get them hooked. Many local skippers have Tom to thank for introducing them to this fine hobby.
Tom was a husband, father, sailor, friend, and mentor.
He will be missed terribly by all those who sailed with him and those whose lives he touched.
Tom leaves behind two beautiful daughters and a loving wife.
Services will be held at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel, Leesburg Virginia, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28th.
