I have used another system.
From the plastic bottle the warp (string) runs thru a small block mounted on the lead weight (1 kg drivers weight) and then back to the shore.
To throw gather the bottle and weigth and toss, once settled lightly pull on the warp to get the float above the weight.
When finished just pull the lot in.
