Servo Comparsion (Or what other servo works)

Greetings to all from the frozen North

I order a new Victory today !!! Yeee haaaaa
First boat that is r/c for me. So please be patent and tolerate the many questions I will have.

Now the question
From what I have read online it seems the sail servo is upgraded from the supplied ones with the Futaba radio (Futaba2ER) to a Futaba S3802. Is there another servo out there that will compare to this one?

As for radios is the Futaba 2ER a good choice?
Or is there a better system to go with for comparable money? Looking at 143.00cdn for the radio and the sail servo.

Thanks for the help
Jeff

Hi Jeff…

Welcome aboard…

here is a combo from towerhobby:

maybe checking www.servocity.com

I just like Futaba…other people are talking about Hitec…I even think they are cheaper!

hope it helped a bit

I think the s3802 will be plenty of torque for you for a Victoria.

You might want to check in with victoria resource center to be sure: http://www.victoriarc.org/

As far as the radio, that will be fine.

One caveat - are you planning on sailing with a large group? If so, the AM radios are much more prone to radio glitching than an FM radio with dual conversion. There is a type of radio glitching that is cuased when two radios are transmitting on frequencies 23 channels apart. It will affect all radios (not just the two that are 23 channels apart). The dual conversion demodulation of FM systems can filter out this glitching, so this is a good way to go if you plan to sail with large groups…

Thanks for the tip but should be no problem here as the local hobby shop thinks I am the only one with a sailboat, Maybe after a bit there will be more (I hope I hope). Also have to watch the expenses at first as “She who must be obeyed” is watching the funds closely for summer holidays(see post in the pub)

“She who must be obeyed”[:-jump]

sounds familiar…sorry off topic…at least compared to servo topic[:-angel]

For the Vic the easiest combination would probably be the Futaba Attack-SR 2VR with regular servos for 53/54$ and a Cirrus CS80 (metal gear) or a Hitech 645 (not sure about the number). The Hitech is more expensive at 45$ ??. I think.
And even if you sail alone I would upgrade the rig to CF and get a new set of sail, although the Vic2 sails seem to be better than the old ones.
In any case the Vic Resource Site has all the info you need.

Hope this helps
Gio
