Sailing in Chile:

Hello:
I invite all skeepers to meet us in Puerto Montt where we hold sailboat races and meetings every month. Once the amount of skeepers become enought probably we will have races every weekend.

If you live near us, need some support in construction or tunning a boat, or just want to share knowledge, experiences and have som fun, please contact us for further help.

This is what I mean!!!

WOW !

Steaks, Wine AND Sailboats… are you sure this isn’t heaven?

Would love to join you in the fun if your pond was closer.

There is a way for all of us to sail against each other and that way is the Internet Course. Hope to see some entries for Brett’s next Jaunt and Jostle from your and other South American countries.

Have you setup a course & tried it?

Happy Sailing, fastfrank

Just looked at the photos on the PC and it looks like life is good in Chile. Nice pond setup.

For some reason, I was not able to see the images using my Palm Centro smart phone. Normally I can with no problem. Not sure what is happening when I try to read you enlarged photos.

It looks like the boats are a little bigger than the Footy’s. Do you have a club website?

Frank -

based on size being held in the one photo - my guess is the RG-65, since that class has been active in South America for 30 years now !

just a guess of course !

I wasn’t sure of the larger class boat shown, so it is good to know what it is. Just trying to see if they might of had any Footy’s and following this activity.

I have three bigger class boats, but I have to say the Footy sceen is a lot of fun and I like the size as it is easily transported. I actually put mine up in the rear window area where it replaces my bobble head.

I am also looking forward to getting back to Florida for the Winter and joining it that racing all over the state.

Thanks, Frank

Hi Dick
Your are right they are Rg 65 ( hold by our master skeeper Mr. Rolf Köster during a tunnning clinic after the barbecue!!)

In the lake you`ll see 1 Meter ULY, a IOM one design used in Chile, Brazil and Argentina, that use the same a,b and c rigs from IOM. ruddedr, keel, bulb and hull-deck are standar for everyone.

You bet, life in the south of Chile is a dream…we have big lakes everywhere, fresh air, and a very good restaurants.
Please tell me more about internet course and add some links. We are setting up a race this august 23th and 24th and we could try the course.

Hello Tato

The basic information on Internet Course Construction can be found at: (http://www.rcsailing.net/forum1/showthread.php?t=3568&highlight=internet+construction) and goes for 9 pages. Additional Internet Course postings can be found at: http://www.rcsailing.net/forum1/forumdisplay.php?f=70

I am aware of two variations of this windward/leeward course. Both consist an anchored windward mark and a downwind mark(s) tethered to the windward mark. As the wind shifts, the leeward mark(s) will move to maintain a W/L course.

One has a starting gate (2 leeward marks with fixed separation) and the other has a single leeward mark. Gate version photos of the system can be seen on page 6 at: (http://www.rcsailing.net/forum1/showthread.php?t=3568&highlight=internet+construction&page=6), but reading through the posts will explain better. This design was proposed for IOM size boats. Some number of W/L laps needs to be timed and submitted to the host by email over say a 1 month period. Shortest time wins. The starting gate allows for multi-boat races or individual timed racing.

Brett McCormack just hosted a July 2008 Joust and Jostle for Footys (http://footy.rcsailing.net/) and the course was defined as 3 laps of a W/L course with a single leeward mark. Forty-two Footys competed for this WW event and the results can be seen on Brett McCormack’s web site at: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~bsmack

A pdf file describing this July Footy Internet Course can be found at: http://www.rcsailing.net/forum1/showthread.php?t=4530&page=2 and go to post 15. Posts 27 and 41 show photos of the marks.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards, Frank
