Notice of Race// Ivanpah

The North American chapter of IRCSSA (www.ircssa.org ) will be holding the annual rc landyacht spring regatta on Dry Lake Ivanpah, located on the Nevada-California border in Primm, Nv. This is held in conjunction with the “America’s Cup” full sized landyacht races (www.nalsa.org). The dates are Mar 20-25. We plan to fit a bunch of races in around the big boat schedule (several model guys also sail the full sized ones). This year, we also plan to run some speed trials to see if the 36 mph rc iceboat record (set by Tony Johnson) can be beaten. Speaking of speed trials, the full sized guys will be running the current speed record (116 mph) holder “Iron Duck” against the “Windjet” http://www.windjet.co.uk/ boys,
which is now being shipped from Great Britain.[:-jump] [:-jump][:-jump]

The only possible fly in the ointment is the unusually heavy recent rainfall in the Southwest, so the event may be shifted to another dry lakebed further north. In any case, the event is quite a spectacle with some incredible sailing craft. I would encourage anyone in the region to drive up for a day & check it out [:D][:D][:D] We’ll probably have an extra boat or two for any newcomers wishing to try their hand at some hard surface sailing.

Regards,
Bill K
