National Sailing Hall Of Fame

Meade and Jan Gougeon will be inducted into the National Sailing Hall Of Fame (NSHOF) in October of 2015.

Both brothers - with third brother Joel, founded Gougeon Brothers Inc. in 1969 They were selected because of their pioneering work in the use of epoxies (WEST System) for boat construction as well as being accomplished sailors.

Meade (nearing age 80) in July 2015 raced his trimaran Adagio in the Bayview (Detroit) to Mackinac (Island) race. Jan passed away in late 2012 at age 67. Jan dominated the DN iceboat fleet from 1971 to 2000, wining 11 national championships and 4 world championships. He is the only member of the 2015 class to be inducted posthumously.

It was my great pleasure to know and sail against both of them while living in Michigan, as well as being introduced to the concept of epoxy construction. Just want to publicly say thanks to them both for the information, education and sailing friendships. A well deserved honor a group of some famous sailing alumni.
