I am still unable to locate a set of line drawings or plans. Looking to build a boat in the one meter sail size.Scaling to size is not a problem Not for class racing just for me at the lake. Does anyone have any direct links to catamaran plans? single page drawings are fine also
I have posted cross section lines for my MultiONE and I originally envisioned that one could build as a trimaran (main hull and 2 floats) or in a catamaran configuration (2 main hulls). Basic hull design follows the current Formula18 class of beach cat. This hasn’t been built yet. Do a search for “IMPULSE” on this site to find more posts.
That is it for catamarans. Just not a lot of interest in them, because of the thin narrow hulls. All the radio gear is up on top and looks kind of ugly cause you need to house in a pod. I suppose you could build a cruising cat verson with a deckhouse, etc. - but I have not run across any free plans (or for sale either).
If you want to build a current version of a beach cat, I do have lines for both the NACRA 5.5 and CLIMAX 18 Square Meter big boats. But those would need to be scaled or enlarged/reduced on photo copier to get a scale size. Here is what they look like (NACRA version) and note this is only available as a jpeg format file. It has not been redrawn using CAD ! Download Attachment: [ VsmNacra2.jpg](http://www.rcsailing.net/forum1/data/dick Lemke/2004715195552_VsmNacra2.jpg)

Try a search in the multihull section of this forum. Several sets available, and in one of the topics there are photos of each of the boat designs.
(F-48/Mini40 Size) GHOST TRAIN and WATER RESIST are free PULSE (available here in US - and includes royalty to designer)<font color=“red”>*</font id=“red”> FREIGHT TRAIN and SNAPDRAGON - available through Traplett Publications
(MultiONE size) PULSE 1 Meter (available here in US - and includes royalty to designer)<font color=“red”>*</font id=“red”> IMPULSE - free - but only cross sections of Hull and Floats and general sideview
There is a photo and info on the PULSE MultiONE built by Jack Ronda on this forum as well.
<font color=“red”>*</font id=“red”> If interested in the PULSE design, and outside of USA or Canada, email or PM me and I will get you in contact with the UK person who can sell you plans for other countries. There are a few people/countries they do not wish to have the plans go to for competitive reasons.
Pretty much all of the designs can be built using wood strip or using glass over foam construction.
I have not been able to find where the free plans are located. Im just trying to find a starting point where I can research what I want to build. Can someone email them to me. (Ghost train or water resist)I dont mean to sound hopeless. When I do a search, Nothing but this post comes back. Thanks again.
Click on general discussion above then click on the “A” archives and all the old post will show. Look for plans in the title. Also go to the intro page “black” and click on for sale.
Ernst: If plans and instructions are available why didn’t I get any with the unfinished kits you sold me. When I asked you questions about the boats you refused to answer. Where does the keel trunk go and how do I install it now that the hull is assembled? How do I assemble the swing rig? Where does the mast go on MKIV Super Slim? You have changed the x-arm location and put it where the mast is on the other boat. You threw 3 incomplete boats into a crate with no packing and sent it to me. I am ready to seriously work on these boats. Are you ready to help?
Maybe we could discuss this project here. I am going to start by drawing up plans of the Nightmare and comparing them with all the other plans I have. It would be easier if you would send me them. We could discuss your reasons for doing things and have members join in especially those interested in building tri’s
I am starting my investigation by checking the 1/2 angle at the W/L of the main hull. I have found when designing my US-1M’s that this is one of the most important design features. I found out that my best boats were around 10 degrees. I also found that the best boats ( Venom, Orco and Seawind )were around the same angle. I have gone through all my plans and measured this angle including your main hull so far. I have found 6 degrees 30" (yours ) to be the thinnest and the Freight Train, 11 degrees - 30" to be the widest. The average being around 9 degrees. The Pulse which I believe is last years champion is around 10 degrees. I am slightly surprised at the same angle for both mono hulls and tri’s. Next x-section shape. By the way I have plans of (Freight Train, Ghost Train, Pulse, WRTm40, need Nightmare.
only a suggestion, but why concentrate on hull designs of boats that only one - or a few - were made and/or never raced?
As Peter found out, what may appear fast for you is still unproven when you venture outside of your immediate area. Of the boats you list, only GHOST TRAIN, FREIGHT TRAIN and PULSE have seen any serious competition. Day sailing in medium winds with ducks and geese will help little. Even the WATER RESIST boat that has some nice lines is still unproven.
Simply look at Andy McCulloch’s designs - FREIGHT TRAIN, and then GHOST TRAIN. Same designer, two different X-sections. Why? Do you suppose he found out the GHOST TRAIN was a bit faster than FREIGHT TRAIN?
Personally, if doing any kind of analysis, I would base decisions on comparison sailing against a known commodity, and we already know that the above hulls are “proven in competition” while a few of the other designs are fast in their “designer’s mind” and yet have to be tested in competition. Interesting to know that given the “hotbed” of Europe, France and England for multihulls, none of the other designs have found their way to a regatta as yet !
Does that say something about the design; the designer; or the feeling of how fast the boat is – or isn’t?
I want anyone’s input as to the design of all the boats mentioned and why they do or don’t work. Also if anyone has seen other boats that do perform well that we have not seen and why they do. I have moved this to a new topic
Just a suggestion - you two guys are “shot-gunning” the topics all over the forum in multiple posts. It would be heck of a lot easier if you followed the same topic with posted replys, so the reader can follow and each reply would be made to a previous post would make a lot of sense.
Haven’t heard a response from either of you regarding a possible multihull topic move - and am sort of waiting for an answer. So far, general opinion from others has been to move, and it would be nice to start off and bring all topics in line with some co-ordinated sense and order. Any thoughts about the move - please email me.
If you decide to stay put, at least try to co-ordinate your topics and replies for the benefit of others trying to follow your ideas.
Dick: I just took all the questions that were in Local Pub while multi was closed and put them back under the topic that they originated in,(Multi-hull ). Trying to keep multi-hull in multi-hull.
Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the info on the free plans. I’ve downloaded a copy of the Ghost Train plans and am trying to use Quick Cad V8 to print a full size copy of the plans on a printer. I would like to print the plans full size and cut out the templates. Can anyone suggest any hints for printing the plans in tiled mode(this mode allows printing the drawing on multiple sheets of smaller paper for joining together to make up the full drawing)? I assumed that the drawing was done using metric units. How should I set the scale of the drawing so that it prints properly? Is there a reason that these drawings aren’t dimensioned? I’m a beginner using cad software. Sorry for the rookie questions! Thanks for any suggestions.
Dick, I am a very amateurish designer of r/c trimarans. I wonder whether you could give me some idea of where the center of buoyancy should be on the floats. Around 1/3 aft of the bow? Thanks, Colin M

Colin -
I have had those drawing for some time, as I sail one of the original NACRA 18 Square Meter boats and quite possibly the lines originated with me?
For buoyancy, the “C” Class boats are running their maximum buoyancy no further back than 60% from the bow. All depends on how “full” (buoyant) your hulls are. If you look at the current crop of Formula 18 cats, the bouyancy is about at the 30% area, and a few even further forward, especially if thy go with very narrow, thin hulls.
A couple of the newer “A” Class cat designs are back a ways with theirs, but moving ballast (crew) and wave piercing bows allow this further back location.
If building a cat, bouyancy will usually be more forward than if building a trimaran.
