Where I am it is now approaching dawn on the day of National Remembrance for all Australians and New Zealanders. We call it ANZAC Day.Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
At a god-forsaken strip of sandy beach on the coast of Turkey this day,April 25th 1915, a force of Aussie and Kiwi young men landed on this beach called Gallipoli as part of an invasion that would bring to an end to World War 1. It turned out to be the greatest military defeat our two countries have ever suffered.Thousands of our finest young men, many in their teenage years, died during the landing and the days that followed. So great was their sacrifice that we as a nation and a people have commemorated it ever since. It is part of the Aussie and Kiwi character that while other nations throughout the world celebrate their great military victories,we celebrate a defeat. It was only through that defeat and others like it that victory finally came.

As the sun rises over our eastern coast today, throughout every city and town, wherever there is an ex-service man or woman,or the relative or family of one, people will gather in a simple but moving service, a Dawn Service, to honour and give tribute to our fallen dead.

At Gallipoli today,at what is now called ANZAC COVE,hundreds and hundreds of again mostly young people have made what is becoming an annual pilgrimage, making the same voyage that some relative made 89 years ago.It is extremely heartening that as the number of our ex-service men and women decrease, the number of young people attending these services each year, increases.

At every service, each person present will bow their heads in a minutes silence and then recite together the Ode To The Fallen :-

They grow not old as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning,
We will remember them.

What would you be willing to sacrifice for your freedoms?
Pat Tillman United States Army died two days ago in a country far away from home. One of many people giving it all for preservation of our freedoms and the idea that all nations should be free. However this man gave a little more than most.
Pat Tillman was a highly regarded professional American Football player. Having been moved by the attacks of 9/11, Pat decided the HE needed to do something. Pat turned down a 9 million dollar contract to play football and with his brother enlisted in the army. Pat died two days ago in very remote place in Afganastan fighting for what he believed in FREEDOM. May we never forget the sacrifices made by our men and women in the armed forces.
What would you be willing to sacrifice for your freedoms? Don’t answer…just search your soul.

My greatest appreciation is extended to the men and women who have given their lives to the conflicts of yesterday, today and tomorrow. God bless them and their families.

Hi!
Well, I remember some movie about the subject. “Wrong beach, wrong country and wrong continent” or something like that…I Agree, my greatest appreciation is extended to the men and women who have given their lives to the conflicts of yesterday, today and tomorrow. God bless them and their families.
