It's a Mini40 - but still ......

This Mini40 catamaran is designed, built and sailed by Mike Dann (courtesy of my U.K. connection).

Info that came with the photo indicates the foils are used - not to fly hulls , but to raise the leeward bow to prevent pitchpole. A few other comments (pro and con) about foils and their use were included, but will be posted for discussion a bit later on the F-48 Multihull Discussion Forum. Info also indicated the wind speeds were such that the other multihulls had changed down to their smaller “B” rig.

Gee, interesting looking rig there! Where have I seen that before?
UPDATE: just went to the other site and nothing up; Noticed the diagonal boards which brings up an interesting set of questions. If a multi like a cat is going to use the daggerboard diagonally installed for lift and lateral resistance it seems that the area would have to be greater than a normal daggerboard; is that the case here?
On Open 60’s the daggerboard is curved so that when deployed the lower portion develops mainly lift and so it can be retracted. Lateral resistance on those boats is primarily developed by a daggerboard in the main hull.
On this boat-maybe it is the picture-but it appears to have something at the waterline forward; can you comment on what that is?
Beautifull boat with an exceptional rig though the tip (upper outhaul?)appears to be fixed and not adjustable; is that correct?

Dick,

How wide is that boat? It seems rather narrow for an RC catamaran (there is a cat sailed by a guy from down here that seems considerably wider…)

 4. Nope

 5. Don’t know

 6. Physical dimensions were not provided - sorry

EDIT: Added - post of views by Nigel Irens has been added to the F-48 Discussion Forum. Interesting views and comments from a leading multihull designer, regarding use of foils on large mutlihulls.

It is unclear to me whether this model is using rudder t-foils in addition to the canted daggerboards but people interested in this general concept might check out the posting under the PUB: “Transatlantic Beachcat” and the posted link showing sketches of that boat using curved daggerboards and rudder t-foils…
