Footy race at the Wooden Boat show in Mystic

Bill and I talked about building a footy to raffle off at the end of the show, and also to use as a demo/loaner boat for the public to try. I’m willing to laser cut and build the hull. I’ll probably use the latest cobra/razor files (provided Bill is still willing). I should be able to knock out a hull, keel and rudder easy enough, and I can probably work up a suitable McRig for it easy enough.

Bill, are you still willing to set it up with an old 72mHz surface radio? I don’t have anything of the sort available owing to my recent entry into surface R/C. Or maybe we could get someone to sponsor it and donate a 2.4 base system.

Oh, the raffle would be free to enter, not a money raising effort, just something to get more interest in our display there. Might be a ‘must be present to win’ type of thing.

I’m sure I can find a 75mhz radio around, Allan…we’ll make it a Razor3. I think it’s a great idea and appreciate your willingness to make the effort. Let me know if you want to work from the published pdf file, or if you’d rather have a format that loads to your lazer, like the others we did.

Thanks…Bill

Gareth, sorry you won’t be there this year…who should we coordinate with for the 2010 event?

Bill

I can answer for Gareth here, he was by yesterday for lunch. A couple of guys from the WoodenBoat Forum will help run the race. Andy will be in charge on land and Paul will use my Humblebee pram on the water to set the buoys and help with stuck or runaway boats. I know I needed some recovery help last year. More details when it’s all finalized.

Steven

I’m hoping to Shanghai Andy Abrahamson to do it. I think you know him.

That’s fantastic Allan
