The Ashburn Model Yacht Club (AMYC) will be hosting three Soling 1M regattas in 2009.
The first event is the Inaugural Cherry Blossom Open. The open will be sailed at the Ashburn Sports Pavilion in Ashburn Virginia on April 4th. The regatta is being held in conjunction with the National Cherry Blossom festival (March 28 through April 12–http://nationalcherryblossomfestival.org). Come join us as for the first, in what is hoped to be, new traditional regatta.
The second event is the AMYC Club Championship. The championship will be sailed at Lake Anne in Reston Virginia on September 27th. This is an AMYA black chevron event designed to ‘crown’ our club champion; however, it is open to all S1M skippers–the more competition the better!
The third event is the Inaugural Ashburn S1M Pumpkin Regatta. The regatta will be sailed at the Ashburn Sports Pavilion in Ashburn Virginia on October 24th. Over the past eleven years, the AMYC has hosted a pumpkin regatta for Victorias and this year we are adding the S1M class to the sailing weekend. The day after the S1M, we will host the 11th Annual Victoria Pumpkin Regatta, so if you sail both classes of boats think about joining us for the weekend!
Ashburn and Reston are located in Northern Virginia, about 15 miles West of Washington D.C… Each event offers a wonderful opportunity to visit the Nation’s Capital: the cherry blossom bloom is a rare and spectacular sight to see and the fall is a very colorful time of year as the foliage changes with the arrival of cooler weather. The venues are near perfect: Lake Anne has a boardwalk that runs the entire length of the course and the Sports Pavilion has a dock that extends out into the lake for easy course visibility.
