Today’s race with a two-minute separation between LR and AR, that isn’t too much compared to the 70 days on the water separation between both!
This was the closest AC72 race by now!
Upwind a very fast leg 3 by AR (LR opened their third leg with a power slide - not seen by now ).
AR showed a nice wing today, but they have to work on their fly-gybes and a faster and deeper downwind speed.
Although LR made their first racing point today, they still didn’t show an adequate racing mode! Please, can someone make a wake-up call ?!?
This competition is getting worse by the day. You can only watch it via YouTube, or virtualeye, but not both (to get the commentary via YouTube, and the visual via virtualeye.)
I even tried using the AC Race Tracker app on my tablet for the visual, but there is only 1 boat on the screen! AC Race Tracker worked so well during the ACWS, and now it basically does NOTHING. Only Artemis is on my screen.
Is LR so ashamed of their performance that they don’t want anyone to watch them, or see the computerized graphic?
And the worst thing IMO, is that we may get blacked out in the U.S. by YouTube for the AC matches. You’ll have to watch it on TV, which has good commentators, but the visual is very disappointing, and has commercials! The boats don’t take commercial breaks!
That’s bad, YouTube after the fact might be the only choice? No screen problems on my desk top.
Is there a YouTube contact for whoever provides the live video? We need to ask that person now, to see if & what areas in the .U.S. will be omitted, so we can make other plans and not be caught off guard.
Great find Wolfgang!!
I tried to post it on RC-Network but it wont let me, I can’t post new topics of expand pictures in posts.
Can you put it up there, it has valuable info for us.
From my research, the TV version of the LVC will be on a tape delay anyway…
Following the links, I found the hull outer skin minimum is 600 grams per meter roughly 22 oz.or =1.5 oz. divided by 18 which is 72’ divided by 4’.
I don’t think I can find 1/2 oz. carbon to make 3 layers to come out to 1.5 oz.
SURPRISE!! I found some 1st try from one my favorite suppliers http://www.solarcomposites.com/composites/compositecarbon.html#1K
For 80mph electric boats I have only 5.7 oz. minimum weight.
That is matt - not structurally viable and very epoxy hungry.
The lightest commercial 1k cloth is about 50gms/sqm (emc-vega in Germany)
ORACLE TEAM USA’s AC45 yachts have withdrawn, retrospectively, from the last four AC World Series regattas.
This follows an internal investigation led by CEO Russell Coutts, which determined that prior to racing in the regattas the yachts were modified without the permission of the Measurement Committee. The withdrawal is in spite of the fact that the modifications had no impact on the performance of the boats.
Rusty, 2nd item listed Plain weave 124 Grams not to mention they have a core and second layer which would be heavier be cause Carbon is not as good under compression.
I will use 5.7 2x2 twill, 2 layers 90 and 45 degrees for hulls with additional carbon for trunks and cross beams for my 48" model.
YOu see what I mean? It’s already started.
The last semifinal match is “unavailable in your country” Because it was supposed to be on TV. I was at Church, so I thought I’d watch the replay…
The Finals won’t be on YouTube either.
There have been some posts on the Sailing Anarchy Americas Cup forum on proxy spoofing to allow you to see the video coverage. Here is one such link. I have not tested it as I had coverage in Canada.

We Ohioans have to stick together, are you any near Cleveland?
Thanks, but unfortunately, they didn’t release the entire match. I had to go to my old shortcut to the replay of the entire match. It looks like this time, Artemis did themselves in with those little mistakes. The foiling jibes looked nice tho.
yes, I’m SW by the airport.
Looked like desperation caught up with them. Too bad they did not have more time on the water. One of our sailing ponds is out by you. Your a CMBC member I’ll bet?
