Na …shoot the prick and put him IN the Bay !

I’m not a red head Uncle Larry !

funny

Ah, such a wonderful way with words …!!

I’m guessing that part of the problem is that while the team owners throw money to get the top guys in the sport (who, it just so happens that the ‘media’ rather like), very few of them are ‘experts’ on multi-hulls. I know they can all have bad days (don’t we all!!) and their bad ones go viral, but at the end of the day, sailing cats involves very different reflexes & skill sets - I’m sure Dick would concur on those points. The only time I ever sailed cats (Hobie 18) the boat spent more time on its side and/or upside down, which wasn’t too unpleasant as a) it wasn’t in the UK, so the water was warm, & b) We weren’t racing so pitch poling became a challenge to achieve rather than avoid!!

I’m in no way putting these guys down - if I had a fraction of their abilities I’d be a seriously happy bloke…

Artemis have had another shocker… The front beam broke whilst tow testing.

I have not spoken to anyone directly on the inside yet, but the rumours are certainly flying about.
“Backer” not removed correctly from the prepreg before laminating has been suggested…

B.T.W. They had already repaired it once.

Ah I was wrong it is the Aussie’s who have the Hobbie 72 !!!

onya mate ! but I don’t think ya can stay sober cobbers !!!

Maybe a the next generation AC mono-hull Dick ? http://speeddreamblog.blogspot.de/ sailing at 1.5 times wind speed !

Now who saying lead bellies can’t go faster than their hull speed ? :stuck_out_tongue: AC Multi-hulls are now possibly a thing of the past.

How about a 72 foot Moth?

1.5 times wind speed still doesn’t get them too close to 50 knots ? And besides, they are sailing a multihull - just one of the hulls happens to be lead and painted orange - heck they even sail with it out of the water to reduce drag … just like we multihullers do … ??? :stuck_out_tongue:

Remember this interview with PC ? well the Luna Rossa AC 72 is scheduled to launch this coming Friday, pics already emerging.

Now is the time when the fun will begin what was never quite clear (to me anyway) is the rules about what LR & ETNZ are allowed to do during this period up until Jan 1st

Whether they allowed allowed to “collaboratively" sail together and or share performance data maybe now become a major point of contention, especially given the current status of OR and Artemis preperations, the Kiwi & Italian interpretation of what “collaboration” may now depend on how you read the rules ?

I can imagine OR & Artemis could position themselves saying that ETNZ/LR collaboration is fine at design stage but not on the water as technically it would make one team become the surrogate of the other & this would prevent ETNZ from building boat #2, LR don’t have plans for 2nd boat and the sharing between the teams ceases on Jan 1st, 2013. So could only become a problem for ETNZ !?

It’s going to be interesting to see if violation of rules are tabled with the jury, once the on-the-water phase of LR/ETNZ begins. !?

Lawyers get ready to start :trouble:

It just wouldn’t be an America’s Cup without the lawyers! Maybe ol’ D.C. will pop out of somewhere too? :stuck_out_tongue:

Good read about NZL-1 from head of the design team http://www.sailingworld.com/racing/americas-cup/ac72-designed-in-the-matrix

When P.Cayard is talking about the Rules, why is not talking about the skippers and crews.
In the past AC Boats and teams were supposed to pertains and manufactured by the same country and no privileged passports were issued !!!
Apparently everybody forgot all about !!
ClaudioD

Here I made up a list of the sailing team members and their nationalities Claudio

Quick answer to your question is because … USA or Sweden for that matter could never win the Cup :stuck_out_tongue:

This is exactly what I was meaning ! The Original AC Rules are totally disregarded !!!
What sort of American Cup is that ?
Just toys for rich !
Very funny if they will break all theirs boats (toys) and showing to the entire world how to put $ in the water !!! (under the water)
ClaudioD

Claudio … I don’t think the original rules exist any more, when you win it you write your own these days.

Talking about wasting money … I had to smile when Felix Baumgartner used that huge condom to float to the edge of space and then jump out to break the sound barrier coming back to earth again …here’s me thinking bloodly hell  how much money did NASA spent to get into space (lot more than cost of a condom) and how much money was thrown in the toilet breaking the sound barrier in supersonic jets and this guy just used gravity

The world just ain’t what it used to be after the world economic crisis. sheesh maybe 72 ft Hobie ain’t a bad idea after all

Cheers Alan :zbeer:

P.S Correction to my last statement: USA or Sweden for that matter could never win the Cup with money alone

Funny thing is the USAF did the same thing back in the 50’s and 60’s before going into space. Check out operation high dive, project excelsior.

Yep, Joseph Kittinger held most of the records until Felix’s jump. In fact he was the “ground control voice” for Felix’s jump. I wonder if that is why Felix pulled the parachute just before breaking Kittinger’s last record, free fall time. Joseph still holds that one! http://stratocat.com.ar/artics/excelsior-e.htm

we all know that a boat is a hole in the water in which you mercilessly throw money…and many of us are crazy enough to own more than one…
