Once again, a masterclass in plug preparation!

I assume that the deep gloss in photo 83 is from your water ‘trick’ again. Also, when you wet sand the white tracer, what grade paper do you use?

Regards,

Row

Of course Row,

this is the method I use to discover small imperfections, but probably not all !!!.
In the next pics you will see that in a couple of occasions i managed to arrive to the wood. Is still protected from the first layer applied before black paint.

These bumps are almost invisible even with water ‘trick’, but they existed . Of course is matter of microns !!.

The first grade was 280, follwed by 320 and 400 and finally with 600 and 1000.

Thewet paper i used was of poor quality, probably good for painted surfaces but not fo glass epoxy that is much harder.
Anyhow I finish and it is now time for waxing !!

Cheers

That gentle ache in your ‘sanding’ arm is definately worthwhile!

Just out of interest, what type of spray paint do you use? When I sprayed ‘Enterprise’ it was almost impossible to achieve an even finish using cans. I found that the spray pattern from the nozzle was slightly different each time it was depressed, with the orange peel finish having to be accepted knowing that 1000 grit wet & dry would eventually flatten it back.

Anyway, excellent work as usual & I look forward to the first hull coming off the plug.

Regards,

Row

Hi Row,
just ordinary glycero spray paint similar to acrylic.
Cheers

Hi guys,

Great job Claudio !

I just come to tell Row that I discovered MOLOTOW spray paints. Low pressure cans, low prices, great results ! No dust, anti drip, all season, covers all.
You can find it in Graffiti stores or on www.molotow.com

Paulin

Hi Paulin,

Not wishing to hijack Claudio’s thread, but many thanks for the information - I’ve sent them an email for asking for technical specifications etc.

Cheers,

Row

The wax operation is ended. To note that the wax used requires 5-6 hours dry.
Finally is time for Hull lamination that will be composed of 3 layers of 105g/m² glass twill !

To remark that the brillance obtained with the water film, is not obtained with the black matt paint !

ClaudioD

Hull lamination in standby, until the arrival of my son next month that whish to see how it is done !!! . Meanwhile the master is wrapped with polyetilene film to avoid dust !
ClaudioD

Are you going to see if your son catches the RC Yachting bug? If so, then I’m sure that he’ll be welcomed to this forum, especially if your abilities have been inherited!!

In the meantime, your mini break will allow me to play some catchup!! Been a bit busy tied up with mundane things recently but today managed to start waxing another sample to see if acrylic paint also reacts with epoxy. Hopefully I’ll be posting results on my ‘Enterprise’ build log towards the end of this week / weekend.

Enjoy your well deserved rest and I hope you find time to squeeze in some sailing…

Regards,

Row

I Row,
with the glass tissue used for the AZUR, I’m actually running short for the 43-900.
My son assisted anyhow to the method used for the lamination taking pictures and filming.
Now is trying to convince me to draw a smaller J Class !!! Obiously he has not realised yet that making smaller is much more difficult to build , especially boats with rather short LWL.

Cheers

Claudio – How goes it?

Your work and your invention on this project have been wonderful… I’s been a while, now. Have you finished the 43" boat or a mold? Is it rigged and sailing?

Best wishes, AL

Very good question Al !
As a matter of facts I have now 4 different models under construction !
It is alway like that with me too many thing to carry on and further I’m getting often catch up by others projects.
Please be patient, probably I will reach the end one day !!!
Actually I have decided to give priority to the Enterprise , the oldest design, and to the America Eagle. Easy to see the carton wedge mounted on the Enterprise mould. The lamination will consist on two separate halves.
If OK I will do the same with the American Eagle .
Still missing new glass tissue and resin.
Cheers

PS: just arrived a good news, at the AC120 Italian Championship, the AREVA, a design of mines in the hands of the excellent Mauro, is the winner of 2011 Cup !
