Well the boat that Joh has scanned In is a New boat down here and it is 7.6metres long and they are running about 400kgs of lead under neath. On our boat we have gone for a relatively conservative rug and only 85kgs of lead and all this is for is to meet self righting rules for the sports boat rule. Now this is done with out any sails up but once you are sailing and tip out it is a different story you need to get on the board. We can bet the boat that John has shown depending on conditions but thye use there waterline length up wind to make the gains.
With regards to sailing an 18ft skiff because it is cheaper I bet you can’t go and build an 18ft skiff on the water for less than $18,000nz which is about $14,000Aus or $10,000us would like to see you try and but I bet you can’t.

That price that I have given includes sails as well. Obviously to get this price you need to a bit of work your self but they are simple light and very fast.

gappy…do they measure? if so, lets continue this offline.
What I was trying to say when Matt said you should just get and 18ft skiff instead of a sport boat was that our sports boats down here are pretty quick and very cheap for us to build. Our 6.5metre sports boat cost $18,000.00NZ dollars so I was trying to make a compariosn could you build and 18 footer for this I don’t think so. Sory if this confused anyone I don’t know how to build a 18ft skiff for that price but I can give you more details on getting a boat like ours if that is what anyone is after.
Look at this website as this shows our boat and turbo sister ship our boat is the white one with Manic on the side.
