12mR scale 1:12

Hi Lars,
Is the Azzura a male mould or other ?

About “Claudio Gadget”, I like to repeat as told in the past, it is not my invention, just introduced it in this Forum after discovery from my Club in Milan. No name existed for this tool and some one since called : ‘Claudio Gadget’ !!!
My search work was to find the origins of this tool and, without the having the proof, it seams that similar method was invented many years ago to make real Fisher Boats Sails, probably in 1800’.
Similar principle tool was called “Gurkenzange” …

Hello Claudio,

Thanks anyway for sharing this gadget. I was going to build something really big and bulky, but this is awesome.

I removed Azzurra from the build bed, not quite finished. I will have to print a short piece to finish this section.

The printer has some limitations, and I learned something new printing this huge piece…

Finally worked out the problems I had with the printer. Finished another section of Azzurra I4 last night. Printing the next section now.

The final piece finished printing yesterday. I still have the keel to print.

Short update. I finally finished the 3D modelling of US40 Liberty. I have started the stern piece in the printer.

I have printed Australia II in scale 1:14. This is a boat that will weigh 8kg ready to sail, and is 1.37meters long. A nice size.
I will go ahead and print Liberty in this scale too, once the scale 1:10.6 is finished.

I’m printing Liberty, and are working on Kookaburra II.

Been working on US40 Liberty and US55 Stars and Stripes this past weekend.

//Lars

Just passing trough since very busy with other family affairs and noticed the weight around 8kg for 137cm length. I suppose the Hull Displacement is in relation with.
Comparing with a typical class M of 130cm the displacement is averaging 4.5kg and some even 4.3kg, thus with Sail Area/DSPL ratio of 0.16m²/kg. How is this ratio with your models ? Thanks

Hello Claudio,

Sorry for late reply. The weight is just calculated from the weight of the original boat.

I worked on the keels for US55 Stars and Stripes and Australia II today. I use sand casting to create these keels. Works really good.
I produce the plugs with my 3D printer.

I have no idea if anyone is looking here anymore. Posting some pictures of Courageous. Hope to sail her soon.

Hi Lars,
apparently no many are visiting and participating to this Forum anymore. Similarly everywhere. No designers, no builders, only cheap plastics available … soon abandoned in the garage corners …
From 200 visitors a day, today are less then 30.
Do not worry carry on !!
Thanks a lot
Claudio

Hello Claudio,

I’m sorry to make this enquiry in the middle of another topic. But I’m not sure how to send you an enquiry directly. I’ve been experimenting with my Claudios Gadget, making a few sails for the IOM class. The gadget works beautifully. However I’m not sure at what percentage draft I should be using? I’ve tried 5% and it looks good, but I’m not sure if its correct, and 6% seems way too much. What percentage draft would you recommend?

Thank you
Tony

Ben Morris has a spreadsheet file, Sail Board Chord Depth.xls
quite usefull:

Hi Tony
most is function of wind strength.
With low wind speed it may be good to increase percentage toward 8%, but most is matter of experimental trials. Jib uses larger % than Main. Obviously, also the sail material thickness shall be in accordance.

Hi Guy’s,

Thanks for the prompt replies. I’ll check out both of your replies.

Thank you both

Kindest Regards
Tony

Hi Lars,
very well, but by the way what are your intentions with the hand saw hung on the wall ? Please do not do it !!! Joking !!!
Cheers
Claudio

Haha, just for fire wood Claudio.

The build has been standing still for a while. My wife is sick, and all my efforts have been focused on her recovery.

//Lars

Hi Lars,
sorry to hear about your wife.
It happen to me since February when my wife was falling on the floor and accusing several doubles fractures. She spent 6 months for recovery at the Clinic and now being at home is spending most of the time in the chair watching TV being afraid to fall again. Obviously shopping is kept as short as possible and modeling is also left in the corner.
Best wishes for recovery to your wife.
Claudio

thanks Claudio,

I spent the entire day in the hospital with Patti today. She is home again, not feeling good, but we hope she will get better in the coming week.
She is off the cancer meds now, and the doctor will adjust the treatment for the next cycle.

I hope your wife feels better soon too,

//Lars
