This site used to be interesting,it still is if all you want to read about is FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFOOTY
Ahhhh, that it is … but there is a lot of other areas to the forum that are open for posts, comments, questions, or building info. Nothing locked to prevent postings there. (just my observation - no malice intended)
It’s a lot better than having NO interest in the Footys!
amazing
rusty. look where you are. wow footies. no wonder we are talking footies. if we were talking about nuatical 12 here. we would be nuts. maybe even crazy. but we are not. the nuatical 12 has it own section. and who is kidding who. as soon as more than 10 people building them, we might even think about getting there own named section. and not just a thread.
lets keep this on track
cougar
i am eternaly grate-full Couger at your generosity
i shall guard THE thread forever. And No we will not have 10 people building them, construction is limited to a small number called Triple Y Yachts, quality is number 1 with us.
This ends Now.

was just talkign to one of my club members. he is a bit of an a**. know it all. but he is a computer geek. I told him about your question. about racing on the internet. what you have to come up with is a math forumla. then you dont need a standard course. lets say you race a 100 meter long course and wind speed of 20 mph. you then time it. and apply the record. I race a course of 50 meters and a wind speed of 10 mph. we apply the same formula. and we come up with the same record. this we post. it would not have to become hard or complictaed.
but this is just an idea

The problem (as I see it) is the inability to accurately “measure” the distance over which you are sailing. Off by a meter or foot (dimension- not boat) can drastically change the calculated speed.
The idea of a length of line, extending leeward from a fixed, anchored mark makes the most sense because it can be measured before and after the event to assure the correct length. It can be placed by rowboat (or wading), the length is constant depending on line length, and the distance around the course once, twice, multiples will give a speed. The only thing is wind speed - and in a way - who cares. If someone sials in 3 knots I doubt they would feel “fast” against a boat sailing in 8. The wind speed become an irrelevant factor. Twice around a fifty foot (or meter) course equals xx minutes which can be calculated for speed per foot, meter, or …? You pick what wind strength YOU THINK you can sail in and just record time. Might even find out that the boats may be faster in less wind, rather than more wind…?
