What I did, and tested all summer, was to use a plastic screw cover as a drain. I used GOOP to glue the cover to the transom, and after it is fixed, I drilled the center hole. The hole in a place were I can access the tiller set screw by inserting the driver straight in the hole.
To drain the water, I open the cap, lift the boat bow-up, and let the water drain. I don’t need a baster, or to re-tape the hatch, or any other time-consuming action. I snap the cap closed when done draining the water.
