Model Yachting at the Museum of Yachting

The World of Model Yachts: May 15- October 31, 2004 at the Museum of Yachting

In collaboration the American Model Yachting Association and US Vintage Model Yacht Group, the Museum of Yachting in Newport, RI is presenting a series of model yachting events for its 20th Anniversary Season. Activities will include radio-controlled racing, youth events, and a new exhibit – ?The World of Model Yachts? – approximately 50 models from the 1800?s to the present, with boats and material from the United States, Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand.

Radio racing at Museum of Yachting will feature J, East Coast 12-Meter and CR-914 class sailing models. Scale J Class models average nine feet in length and 80 pounds; EC-12 models, based on a full-size 12 Metre design, are 56-inches long and 27 pounds. CR-914 Class models are 36-inch, kit-built models having a 1990s America?s Cup appearance and will be used in a season-long, radio sail mentoring program for youths and adults.

Labor Day weekend: J & EC-12 Invitational Race as part of Museum of Yachting 25th Annual Classic Yacht Regatta

October 9-10: Columbus Day weekend J & EC-12 Regional Championships

Other Model Yachting activities at the Museum of Yachting will include participation in the 30th Anniversary WoodenBoat Show at Ft. Adams from July 23-25, along with various on-site model demonstrations, lectures and workshops.
