Just for fun -Matilda

Absolutely beautiful!

Thanks; Dave-

Matilda completed.

A toast to Angus, at least one more Footy in Footydom.
Hopefully there will be many more.
We have already missed his posts.
He will be sorely missed.

Matilda finished up at 422g ready to sail, so not heavy but not light.
The bulb is 220g. Just better than 50% ballast ratio.
The rig and sail is 18.1g.
Hull minus bulb 89.4g.
Hull and bulb no radio 316g.
Radio 98g.
4 cell AAA NiMH
FSky 2.4G 4 channel RX
Rudder servo JR ES375
Main sheet servo HS85mg

Matilda is splendid! Great build…

Thanks for sharing;

Dave-

Thanks Bill & Dave for the compliments.

The first sail has happened in very light conditions.
A bit of bobbing around waiting for gusts.
Still very enjoyable.
Initially we had the batteries too far forward and the bow was a little low.
After moving the batteries as far back as possible the water line was right. See side on pic.
The handling was good but obviously it was never over powered.
Basically it went where it was pointed.
The gaff rig is a little interesting.
With no vang (kicking strap) the only thing holding the boom down is the main sheets.
This may need to be changed as the boom lifted in most bearings other than close hauled.
This maybe an advantage as the boom lifted markedly going down wind which certainly promotes a lot of sail twist and therefore de-powering. Possibly too much.
The sail gapes away from the centre of the gaff a little as well.
Another sail in stronger conditions is needed before making any changes.
All in all we are very happy with the looks on the water and we had an enjoyable 2 hour sail sharing the transmitter.
We’ll take a HOP2IT with us as well next time.

Peter, Claire,

I love the effort that has gone into such a lovely looking footy

Hi Dave,

Attached are some detailed pics of the cabin and how the servos are fitted.
Still haven’t sketched up the dimensions as yet.

You folks do beautiful work! I just love your attention to the little details. That footy looks great in or out of the water. Thank you for the additional detail pictures.
