would you have to use chase boats or is the lake accessible all the way?

Looking at it a bit more deeply, there is a road right along the NW shore of the lake except at the village of Invermoriston where it goes inland for about 2 km. Apart from this bit it should be possible to skipper the race from a car with occasional use of a pair of stout walking boots. Two people should be able to get a boat across the mouth of the river at Invermoriston with a little ingenuity.

There is a minor road on the other side of the loch for about half the length of the course. A RIB as a rescue boat might be nice but a support team with boots and a mobile phone on the other side would probably do almost as well.
