Actually American Eagle and Enterprise are progressing in parallel.
Here the last picture of today !

Dear all,
A few suggestions for shaping hulls using foam (from a surfboard shaping perspective).
-
Try using a denser variety of the pink or blue foam, such as dow hi-load 40 or hi-load 60. These foams are harder and will sand a little better, but still have some of the properties that make sanding difficult. Also, higher density eps foam (2 lb per cubic foot) is also easy to shape. The beads pluck occasionally, but these can be filled with a spackle of epoxy microballons. The spackle will also fill other voids so that the fiberglass won’t go dry when laminating.
-
Use 40 or 50 grit sandpaper when shaping, and shape using diagonal strokes. This will help keep the shape true when sanding inconsistent foam and seams. Wire brush the sand paper to get rid of little accumulations in the grit. These little accumulations become balls that dent the foam.
-
Use a very sharp block plane, held at a large angle to the direction of motion, to shave the foam. This only works if the plane blade is very sharp.
-
It might be better to layer the foam using layers parallel to the water lines or buttocks. This would minimize the glue joints. However, this would require careful checking with templates.
-
Coating the foam after shaping with a white glue may help seal the foam, so that after glassing the plug with epoxy, paint and fillers won’t eat the foam.

Back to this discussion after a year or so !
This time is to propose some plans for the J-Class as well for the 12Metre.
The list is limited to some of the boats made so far.
The 12Metre Class list is split into sections, the projects made BEFORE the Intrepid and the ones made AFTER the Intrepid.
The difference consist on the variations introduced to the Hull.
Rudder was displaced toward the transom with the use of a sheg support, the keel become shorter and equipped with a Trimmer Tab.
It should be very interesting to introduce the Trimmer maneuverability with a dedicated servo.
Actually the intent is to propose plans in both classes below the 115/120cm length.
The source of plans is the F.Chevalier America Cup Encyclopedia
I would therefore ask to select 2 plans for each series. The plans that will receive the higher number of votes will be transformed in constructional plans composed of 2 views and shadows to scale 1:1.
2 boats in the J-Class
2 boats in the 12Metre before Intrepid (long keel)
2 boats in the 12Metre after Intrepid (short keel & trimmer)
This is the List that includes the model proposed size to scale 1/32 for the J-Class and the scale 1/17 for the 12Metre Class:
Small scale outlines will be inserted in the next connection !
